Stretch from the neck through to the ankles Print E-mail
The spine and leg stretch is a very effective stretch for those with arthritis because it encourages movement in groups of muscles and joints simultaneously.

This is also achieved while also strengthening the supporting and opposing muscles.

When an arthritic condition exists in a joint the surrounding muscles often shorten in their range to protect the inflamed areas of the joint.

It is very important in rehabilitation that the joints are kept mobilised to stop these muscles locking up like this and to use the entire joint range because this spreads the wear and tear throughout the joint capsule surface.
