The hip rotator stretch is good for strengthening the muscles in the upper leg that support the hips. It is very important for people with arthritis to have these muscles strong while increasing the range of movement in the hips. This stretch which is very similar to the common hamstring - with a twist is an excellent way to achieve both goals because it is rotating through the entire movement of the hip joints. Of course if there is degeneration in your hip joint and this exercise causes pain, this should be managed because the pain can last for some time after doing this exercise. Generally a bit of pain can be normal because the joint is getting used to operating in an area that probably hasnt been used. Professional advice should be sought if there is pain caused by doing the hop rotator stretch. Instructions for the Hip rotator stretch. |
